INTRODUCTION
The application of modern ICT in the academic libraries has made it more near to the library professionals as it gives the user some new service. Due to improved communications and networking facilities, the academic library users are much aware of online databases and other services. ICT and networking technologies are providing the library professionals with new opportunities to improve their resources and services. Libraries around the world have also developed a number of OPAC. The recent developments are made available to them precisely and currently in the academic libraries.
The advent of the modern Information Technology has facilitated in the electronic
storage and transmission of recorded knowledge. Linking of computers with tele communication has revolutionized the expansion of information systems, commercial vendors of information and networks. New challenges and opportunities are emerging due to information explosion, financial crunch, and price hike of the national and International journals, fluctuations in currency rate, and integration of new information technologies and ever increasing user's demand.

Defining Digitization
Digitization refers to the process of translating a piece of information such as a book,
sound recording, picture or video, into bits. Bits are the fundamental units of information in a computer system. Turning information into these binary digits is called digitization. This digitization process can be accomplished through a variety of existing technologies.

Need for Digitization
Knowing the thrust of ICT on academic libraries, the librarians started to convert the traditional library to digital libraries. "Traditional Library" is the physical set up of majority of its printed collection resources. "Automated Library" is the telecommunication with possibilities of unconstrained geographic access. "Hybrid Library" is to both digital and printed resources with access to remote resources. Due to competition keep on increasing and profit margins will be under pressure, the librarians should learn how to use information effectively, how to disseminate information and how to market information in the digital environment.
Statement of The Problem
Information access through electronic media has had a lot of impact on the libraries
and library community. Almost all the librarians have been facilitated to develop new strategy for managing the IT facilities. This study aims to digitization of PG Course Question Bank of Bharathidasan University to establish an electronic library to satisfy the end users.

OBJECTIVES
The Library of Bharathidasan University has defined the following objectives for digitizing
parts of our collections:
parts of our collections:
- To provide wide access to the Library’s Online Question Bank collections.
- To save the valuable shelf space and Preserve Digital Intellectual Content for Present and Future use and avoid damage.
- To scan and convert the entire printed Question Papers in to the digital format using Digital Scanner.
- To developing a Tamil Language Interface for Greenstone Digital Library Software and developed interface into the official release of Greenstone.
DIGITAL REPOSITORY SOFTWARE
Dspace Digital Repository is a suite of software for building and distributing digital
library collections. It provides a new way of organizing information and publishing the
digital content. Some of the prominent open source software packages for digital libraries and institutional repositories are D-Space, Greenstone and etc.

DSPACE
DSpace (http://www.dspace.org) was developed jointly by the MIT library and Hewlett-
Packard (HP) Labs. DSpace modestly describes itself as a ground breaking digital repository system. It captures, stores, indexes, preserves and redistributes an organizations research material formats. DSpace supports institutional repositories and electronic records management. DSpace is being popularly used worldwide to meet many digital archive needs. Based on the needs and services of the repository, institutions will then want to assess the available software platforms. The software is free to download, but usually requires some level of expertise to implement and maintain. A central governing body manages the source code, but it is open for changes and enhancements from the development community (for example, CDSware, DSpace, EPrints,Fedora, Greenstone).

REQUIREMENTS FOR DSPACE
DSpace currently support two primary web interfaces: JSPUI which uses JSP and the
Java Servlet API and XMLUI (aka Manakin) based on Apache Cocoon, using XML and XSLT.
DSpace holdings are made available primarily via a web interface, but it also supports the OAI-PMH v2.0, and is capable of exporting METS (Metadata Encoding and Transmission Standard) packages. DSpace supports the common interoperability standards used in the Institutional repository domain, such as Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting, SWORD, Open Search, and RSS. More recent versions of DSpace also support faceted search and browse functionality using Apache Solr.

The Collection Question Paper has been accumulated through downloading from digitized document and scanned hardcopy of Question Paper in print form related to all Subjects. After clicking the My Dspace, we can get some subdivisions under the category of Question Bank rand asking the user name and password for uploading Question Papers. Under this domain of subject name, we have to divide 32 categories. Bachelor of Business Administration [79], Commerce [405],Bioinformatics [15],Biochemistry [23],Biotechnology [35],Botany [67],Chemistry [82],Computer Science (M. Sc.) submission of new collection (Question papers)
The below figures are depicts that the step by step uploading in IR for digital access of new collection on Question Bank. BDU IR provides the access to the Question Papers. An Institutional Repository is an online locus for collecting, preserving, and disseminating in digital form Question Papers and intellectual output of BDU Library.

CONCLUSION
Digitization of an item offers many advantages, including simultaneous access to a resource, remote delivery of information directly to the end-user, flexibility in format, and 24/7 availability. Digitization as preservation of PG Question Papers for Institutional Repository of Bharathidasan University proven to ensure the continued existence, accessibility, and authenticity of the information and decrease access to that physical object, thereby limiting the risks involved with unnecessary handling and permitting the physical object to be stored in appropriate and secure archival storage areas. It also allows for the enhancement of a physical object to satisfy the non local user. Digitization must be introduced so that at least libraries becomes of hybrid nature.
